Why I Chose Thailand Travel in 2024 to Escape Winter
Thailand Phuket 2024 when the temperatures start dropping from September to December in Europe especially in Germany my craving for sun and the sea always kicks in. This year, I was torn between another trip with my girlfriend to Croatia, or a solo adventure. I ended up choosing Thailand phucket in 2024 to chase that real summer feeling again.
We've been to Croatia for the past few years, which has its charm. But this time, I needed something different and warmer. Going solo after three years of being constantly together was strange at first, but part of the experience.
Landing in Thailand Phuket – First Impressions of Thailand Phuket 2024
I flew into Phuket via Bangkok, and although it was my fourth time visiting Thailand, the island felt very different this time. Kata Beach, where I stayed, was beautiful but the overall vibe of Phuket felt more like a party destination than the peaceful paradise I remembered. Phuket in 2024 was overly crowded. Surprisingly, there were more Russians than Thais, which drove up prices especially for accommodations. You’re lucky to find a rental apartment under €65 per night. The local food markets were still fantastic, but the cost of staying was high.
From Phuket to Khao Lak – A Better Experience
After a week in Phuket and even getting fined for not having an international driver's license I decided to move on to Khao Lak. The shift in atmosphere was immediate and refreshing. Fewer crowds, calmer beaches, and a more authentic vibe made me feel like I was back in the Thailand I loved.
The room standards weren’t what I was used to, which made me extra cautious flushing toilets before using them, checking for bugs, etc. But overall, it was worth it. Thailand phuket in 2024 showed me that every region tells a different story.
The Good, the Bad, and the Scooter Rides Renting a scooter is still as easy and convenient as ever one of the best parts of traveling in Thailand. Riding around Phuket was fun, despite the traffic, and it’s honestly one of my favorite memories from that leg of the trip. Back in Khao Lak, the crowd was different more Germans, fewer Russians not that it mattered, but it stood out. The city center felt odd, with high-end hotels dominating the area, removing some of the rustic charm Thailand used to have.
Comparing Past vs. Present – Has Thailand Changed?
My first time in Thailand was on Ko Yao Yai a peaceful, mostly Muslim island with few tourists and stunning nature. It felt like I had discovered a hidden paradise. Thailand phuket in 2024 felt more commercial, more crowded, and less unique than it once was. That doesn’t mean it wasn’t enjoyable. The food, the warmth, the convenience all were still there. But the soul of the destination felt different.
Final Thoughts on Thailand Phuket 2024
Despite some disappointments, I’m glad I went. It reminded me that travel evolves and so do we. This trip might be my last time in Thailand for a while. It’s no longer the hidden gem it once was, but rather a convenient winter escape. Time for something new. South America is calling maybe Colombia next?
